Robert Andrew Scott (b. 1983)  is a Nicaraguan American chamber composer & improviser based in Richmond, Virginia. Scott’s musical objectives derive directly from his personal objective: to overcome a lifelong sense of ‘out-of-place-ness’ / diaspora.

His path has been non-traditional — forged primarily through self-study & private mentorship. In 2014 Scott earned his BA in music & the Gilman International Scholarship for studies at Tbilisi State Conservatoire. He has studied fiddle at Cowan Creek Mountain Music School & was a composer fellow at Bang on a Can’s 2017 Summer Festival.

Scott is a Hindustani singing student, member of RAIC (Richmond Avant Improv Collective) & Orkes Keroncong Rumput. The pursuit of composition is his driving passion; motivated by a need of belonging & community. Recent collaborators include pianist Vicky Chow & violist Carrie Frey.
